Bassenthwaite Lake is just a couple of miles away and is
one of the quietest lakes in the Lake District. It is an area of special
scientific interest and has many rare fish. It is also home to one of
only 2 pairs of ospreys in England. Every year since 2001 the ospreys
have returned to the lakeshore and successfully reared their chicks. You
can watch their progress from the viewpoint in nearby Dodd Wood. There
are also red squirrels in and around Keswick with Dodd Wood being one
of the best places to spot them.
There are many other interesting things to do in the area and you will
find lots of information leaflets in our cottages to give you some ideas
for your holiday. |

You are in a walker's paradise here in Millbeck.
Skiddaw is right on our doorstep and there are a variety of routes to
the top. If you are lucky you may spot deer on the lower wooded slopes
and peregrine falcons nesting on the crags. From the top of Skiddaw
you will have a fantastic view across to Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite
Lake and the valley in between. You can also see across to Grizedale
Pike and Catbells. Within a few miles of Millbeck you also have Blencathra
and all the hills of the Central Fells. |

Millbeck is a small hamlet situated just 2 miles from the bustling market town of Keswick in the Northern Lake District. Keswick had its own lake, Derwentwater, known as "queen of the lakes" where you can take a trip on the launch and stop off for a variety of different woodland, mountain and lakeside walks. You can also hire small boats on the Lake. |
