CHESTNUT COTTAGE SURROUNDING AREA

Skiddaw

Castlerigg Stone Circle Bassenthwaite Lake is just a couple of miles away and is one of the quietest lakes in the Lake District. It is an area of special scientific interest and has many rare fish. It is also home to one of only 2 pairs of ospreys in England. Every year since 2001 the ospreys have returned to the lakeshore and successfully reared their chicks. You can watch their progress from the viewpoint in nearby Dodd Wood. There are also red squirrels in and around Keswick with Dodd Wood being one of the best places to spot them.

There are many other interesting things to do in the area and you will find lots of information leaflets in our cottages to give you some ideas for your holiday.
