terrain I know. In 1990 I was fortunate enough to be able to come to live
here permanently and walk the Lakeland fells to my heart's content. This
site is dedicated to all those who explore the area on foot. |

‘Sitting in an open carriage being pulled behind a
narrow-gauge steam engine up a beautiful valley towards England’s
highest mountain, buzzards circling overhead, fern covered fells rising
on either side, forest here and there, the distinctive Herdwick Sheep
grazing in dry stone-walled fields. You trundle past small hamlets and
under bridges were people wave as you pass. The engine toot-toots, announcing
its arrival at the next tiny station. Everyone is smiling …’ |
